Standing Lamp - n°1
Design Muller Van Severen
Origin Belgium
Standing Lamp n°1 by Muller Van Severen is part of a collection of lights defined by simple, bent lines that use color to animate both the light and the space around it.
Crafted from bent tubing, each fixture features a distinct silhouette, finished with an archetypal lampshade inspired by one found at a local flea market. This detail imparts an enduring, almost archival quality, solidifying the lamp's timeless design.

Muller Van Severen
The Belgian design duo Müller Van Severen, composed of Fien Müller and Hannes Van Severen, has been at the forefront of redefining the boundary between art and design since their collaboration began in 2011. Their minimalist approach and deep reverence for materials have garnered global recognition and established them as pivotal figures in the contemporary design scene.
Fien Müller, born in 1978 in Lokeren, Belgium, has a diverse artistic background. She earned her Master's degree in photography from the University College Ghent's Faculty of Fine Arts (KASK) in 2000 and later expanded her artistic practice to sculpture at the LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, completing a second Master's degree in 2002.
Hannes Van Severen, born in 1979 in Ghent, is the son of renowned designer Maarten Van Severen. He began his studies in sculpture at the LUCA School of Arts and later earned a second Master's degree in sculpture from the Higher Institute for Visual Arts in Ghent in 1999. This foundation in sculpture plays a pivotal role in the sculptural quality of their designs.
In 2011, Müller Van Severen introduced their first collection, "Landscapes for Living," at Antwerp’s Valerie Traan Gallery. This debut collection of multifunctional furniture showcased their belief that creating and daily life are intrinsically linked, blending artistic vision with functional design.
The duo’s creations are characterized by their sculptural form and the innovative use of materials, often incorporating polyethylene and metal. These materials highlight their aesthetic sensibility and emphasize the natural beauty of the raw elements, reflecting a deep commitment to the integrity of the materials they use.
Müller Van Severen's works have been displayed at prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Vitra Museum, Centre Pompidou, and Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Known for their craftsmanship, all their production pieces are handmade by skilled artisans and small-scale manufacturers, ensuring that each item reflects the unique textures and irregularities of the chosen materials.
Through their innovative approach to design, Müller Van Severen continues to inspire and influence the design community, merging functionality with art in ways that resonate deeply across various spaces and environments.
