Vittoriano Viganò
Vittoriano Viganò
Vittoriano Viganò, a prominent architect and designer, viewed design as a powerful vehicle for human development and social enhancement. His multidisciplinary approach encompassed industrial design, architecture, interior design, and urban planning, positioning him as a notable figure in the Brutalism movement. Growing up in a creative household—his father was the painter Vico Viganò—Vittoriano pursued architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, graduating in 1944. His collaboration with Gino Sarfatti was particularly noteworthy; he served as both advisor and Art Director at Arteluce, where he designed the flagship store on Via della Spiga and made significant contributions, including the celebrated VV Cinquanta family of luminaires, reflecting his belief in the interplay of functionality and beauty.
The VV Cinquanta Suspension model exemplifies Viganò’s innovative spirit. With its elegant dual-stem design, this luminaire encourages a variety of dynamic lighting compositions. The enameled spun aluminum reflectors in Viganò’s signature colors invite playful interactions with light, transforming spaces through upward and downward illumination. Viganò’s impact on the design world was further recognized when he received the Italian Republic President Prize for Architecture in 1991, cementing his legacy as a transformative figure in Italian contemporary design.
